Animals And Plants That Never Die

These species have a longevity of thousands of years, and will never disappear except external causes that annihilate them.
Animals and plants that never die

That we seek to live forever is not something that has come out of our imagination or that we have invented. Nature has already taught us that there are animals and plants that never die and we, to some extent, want to imitate them. We tell you about them and, maybe, you will discover something that will help us.

Are there really animals and plants that never die?

There are hundreds of legends and myths about youth, eternity, and life without end. Where did the human being get such ideas? Certainly from nature. Animals and plants have been discovered that are immortal. Well, biologically immortal.

We say this because an animal or plant that is immortal is not exempt from losing its life in an accident or by a predator or a saw, in the case of trees. Still, it is surprising that these species never age or die. These are some:

Long-lived pine

This species of tree – the photo that opens this article –  is found in North America and is estimated to be more than 5,000 years old. Despite the fact that the inclement weather has taken their toll on them, and it shows in their appearance, they are still standing, intact and impassive to whatever comes.

Studies that analyzed their cells showed that they had not aged and that they were still as well as when they began to exist 5,000 years ago. It is believed that it stores stem cells in the roots that cause the growth of new ones, allowing their cellular level to remain intact.

Anemones

Anemones are marine animals that survive thanks to the poison that they shoot towards their prey, which are usually small fish and mollusks, which serve as food. It seems that studies carried out on these animals show that the only sign of aging is their size.

Sea anemone: characteristics

As they advance in years, their size increases, but it has not been the case that any of them die at any time. In fact, it is known for sure that any missing or amputated part grows back, so they have an impressive capacity for regeneration.

Although of course, it happens like what we mentioned at the beginning, this immortality is biological. That is, anemones are prey for other animals, so if they serve as food they will die.

It is believed that this animal has the secret of immortality and that it has much in common with humans. For this reason, research is being carried out thanks to millionaire scholarships, in order to discover something that could lead us to be immortal. Deep down, our body also regenerates in a certain way as it does yours. For example, our hair, our nails or our cells.

Redwood

They are the tallest trees in the world and many have been standing for millennia. Although many cases are known to have died, the cause has always been linked to external agents such as fires or inclement weather.

Redwood

These trees, which are born from a tiny seed, reach impressive heights and it is believed that many of them have been standing for more than 5,000 years, and still continue. Will they be the ones with the secret of immortality?

Jellyfish

You may be surprised to see this name on the list of animals and plants that never die, because probably more than once you have seen dead jellyfish on the beaches where you vacation. Not all jellyfish are, but there are several species that, having been analyzed, have proven to be biologically immortal.

Poisonous jellyfish

They can reverse their own development, so they are able to be young whenever they want. Interesting, don’t you think?

The more we learn about nature and the beings that compose it, the more we realize that it is unknown to us. Who knows if some of us can live forever thanks to what we learn from it? We will have to wait …
