Bob The Dog Got Lost While Sightseeing
We can all suffer accidents, although we are more afraid of those that occur far from our home. This is the story of Bob the dog, who got lost in sightseeing, and of all the people who went out of their way to help him get back home.
Bob the Dog’s Vacation
Bob the dog’s family decided to go on vacation in July with their motorhome. They are German and decided to drive to Muros, in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It was not the first time they had gone on vacation in this way and, of course, their dog Bob was with them.
Bob is an adult dog, about five years old. It is large in size, almost completely black, and was adopted by this family when it was a puppy of about a year. Bob’s good character and desire for adventure made him an excellent travel companion.
The three’s vacations went according to plan, but within a couple of days of having to start the journey back to Germany, the town they were visiting was celebrating and rockets were being fired. Bob got scared and ran off. His family searched for him for days, but Bob didn’t show up so they decided to ask the townspeople for help.
How Bob got lost
Bob got lost in an area with many small towns, but also with many forests and mountains. The people of the town from the first moment turned to help them. Animal lovers understood the anguish that this family must be going through, refusing to leave until their dog appeared.
With the help of a local protective association, they organized to search for Bob. They distributed posters, warned on social networks, and even made a video that was broadcast on television. Of course, they organized excursions and hunts to fetch him in the forest.
The town turned to this family for almost a whole week. Dozens of people went out for a walk in the mountains to try to find it and hundreds tracked down any sign of a similar dog on social networks.
The happy ending
It was not one person, but another dog, who found Bob. One of the hunts that had gone out in his search was accompanied by several Labradors. One got out of the group and started barking. When they went to look for him, they found Bob, wedged into a concrete gutter, unable to move.
They immediately took him to the vet and notified his family. Bob was dehydrated and very weak; no one knew how long he had been stuck in this place, but it would take very little to recover. The veteran examined him and decided that it was best for him to stay in hospital for a couple of days.
Said and done: after two days and one night in observation, Bob began to walk alone. As soon as he regained his strength, he returned to his owners’ motorhome and their vacation was over.
Bob the dog is reunited with his family and at home, and luckily this adventure has only been a very big scare. Bob’s family does not stop saying how grateful they are to the residents of the town, because without their help they would never have found their dog.
Tips for traveling with pets
We can all suffer accidents while on vacation, although we can follow a series of general tips for traveling with our pets. Keep in mind that they have to adapt depending on what animal we travel with and our destination:
- Chip your pet and keep the data updated. If it is lost, it is a guarantee that it can return.
- Identify your animal with a collar and a tag with your phone number. Even if it has a chip, if your dog is lost they will be able to identify him faster.
- Invest in a new harness and leash. They will take a tug better and if you get scared or want to run away, they will be less likely to break.
- Secure the carriers you use with zip ties. Use only carriers that are in perfect condition and identify them with stickers on the outside.
- Secure your dog or the carriers inside the car, with a special leash or with the seat belt.
- Plan your vacations in advance and make sure that the accommodations you are going to accept animals.
On vacation, many people want to take their animal on a trip. Make sure you do it as safely as possible, to avoid scares and bad experiences.
