The American bully was a wanted dog that was born from the desire to have a docile chancellor, which he could adopt as a pet, but who at the same time had a heavy and strong appearance . The problem then was that all dogs with that appearance had been trained for fighting, so they were aggressive.

Before Pitbulls, David Wilson was interested in a type of dog known as Amstaffs – American Staffordshire Terrier – with a very peculiar blue color. From this, the American bully breed began to develop.

The color of the Amstaffs attracted attention, as it was not normal to see such a tone in a dog. His sturdy little body attracted the attention of many as well. These fans began to breed dogs of this breed mixing them with the English, French and American Bulldogs and with Pitbulls.

The different dogs they mixed with gave birth to the American bully in different versions: standard, classic, pocket and XL. However, only the standard is recognized as a purebred.

Characteristics of the American bully

Ears

Their ears are generally short, although it may be the case that they are long. Breeders may cut them at birth.

Weight and body

They can weigh between 35-40 kilos, which is a lot due to their size. His body is muscular, heavy and with well marked ribs at the rear. Their upper thighs are well separated, which allows them to have a broad and robust chest, a very marked characteristic of the breed.

Colour

It does not matter the color of your eyes, nose or hair. All are accepted, although the most common is bluish with a white spot on the chest.

Tail

Its tail is very short compared to its body, which, although small, is long and robust. There are many hatcheries that also cut it off, like the ears.

Paws

Their legs should be very straight and without deformation, although if the feet tend to go a little outside, it is acceptable, but their feet will always be very rounded and large.

Character

The American bully is a dog that was born from the desire to have a dog with the appearance of a ‘little boar’, but with the character of the sweetest of puppies. And this is really what defines this breed.

It is an ideal dog to be with families, especially those with children. They are playful, something that the little ones will love.

This is not an aggressive dog. Remember that there are no dangerous dogs, but rude furry ones. If the American bully is well socialized with other animals and with people since childhood, you will not have the slightest problem, remember that there are ways to know if the animal has had a good imprinting.

Special cares

Due to its great weight compared to its body, it is necessary that you watch the amounts of food, as well as that they do not have a high percentage of fat.

You will need to do physical exercise often, although it will not be necessary to be a resistance exercise, as its flat muzzle causes you to have little breathing problems. Moderate but constant exercise.

On the other hand, it should be noted that it is a breed that loves cleanliness, so its daily grooming will be vital for its emotional health.

You see, without a doubt, appearances can be deceiving. The American bully can appear to be a tough and robust dog, which could lead to think that their character is the same. Note that nothing is further from the truth. Will it be your next pet?
