1. Basset Hound

It is part of the group of hounds and is characterized by its short legs, its elongated body and its drooping ears that can touch the ground. It was created to hunt hares, foxes and deer and arose from the cross between a Bloodhound (from Belgium) and an English dog. It is a very calm and friendly dog, somewhat stubborn, affectionate, playful and affectionate. He gets along wonderfully with children and likes to sleep and eat more than exercise (although sport is essential to avoid being overweight).

2. Dogue de Bordeaux

Another of the dogs of France, in this case belonging to the Mastiff family. The Dogue de Bordeaux is large and has a lot of power, as well as a firm and determined character. It is undoubtedly an excellent watchdog.

4. Poodle

The Poodle is another of the most popular French dogs. It emerged in the 15th century as a pet for nobles and aristocrats. Later it was used as a water collector canine because it recovered prey that had fallen into lakes or rivers. Today it stands out for its beauty and elegance. There are four types of poodle: toy, dwarf, medium, and large. They are very playful and active animals, energetic and intelligent, but they are easily distracted.

5. Shepherd of the Pyrenees

This breed is found within the group of shepherds and is used for surveillance, especially in the mountain area of ​​the Pyrenees. There are two varieties: long-haired and flat-faced. It is a very agile and audacious animal that is not afraid to attack a wolf or a bear if necessary. In addition, it is characterized by its independence (difficult to train) and by its adorable appearance of white fur with double layer of hair and its floppy ears. The Pyrenean Shepherd is medium in size and has fine bones.

6. Gascony Blue Griffon

It is a breed of dogs from France of the hound type and originated in the Gascony region (south-west of the country). It is used for small game hunting, it has rough, spotted fur, drooping ears and a curved upturned tail. It is a cross between the Bleu de Gascogne and the Griffon Nervais. He is always very alert and is not very well known outside the French territory.

7. Papillon

Another of the French races that is related to the upper classes of the 18th century. It owes its name to the fact that Queen Marie Antoinette had a copy of this dog, which she called “le petit papillon” (the little butterfly). It is of the Spaniel type and has ears similar to butterfly wings, open and erect. They are usually white with black or reddish spots. It is a very loyal dog, quite active, with straight and elegant hair. In addition, the Papillon is easy to train and needs company from a young age.
