The ancestors of this breed of dog, came to Europe through this region, Pomerania, from Iceland and Lapland, where they were sled dogs. But the breeders of these dogs knew how to adapt them to more city life. It was the Queen of England who made them fashionable among the country’s nobles.

His physical appearance

The Pomeranian is a breed of small dog, weighing around 1.5 kg to 3.5 kg, which unlike the other breeds, the male is smaller than the female. The appearance of the face resembles that of a fox, with a triangular head and small, stiff ears. It has a characteristic tail that is carried over the back.

They have abundant two-layered hair , the inner one is denser and smoother, while the outer coat is rougher and with longer hair. The coat can be of different ranges of colors such as black, brown, white, wolf gray and even orange.

The Pomeranian dog is ideal for families, as it is very protective and loves children. It is a very active dog that adapts very well to any environment. Although he is quite reserved with new people, but once he meets them, they quickly become friendly.

They are quite defensive and are always on alert, so they tend to bark at any stimulus, although sometimes this is a bit annoying, since they tend to bark a lot.

They are very intelligent and quite obedient dogs , that  is why it is advisable to train them from an early age. Keep in mind that they have a fairly strong character, so you will not allow it to stick to them.

In general, a Pomeranian dog does not need special care. You have to take into account your hair, that you have to brush it every day, so that it looks beautiful and without tangles. You also have to pay special attention not to bathe them too often, as their skin and fur could be damaged. It is recommended that you also take care of their ears and nails, which are always well trimmed.

The Pomeranian is usually very healthy, although it is a small breed, they are not excessively sickly, but there are some typical diseases of this breed, especially those that have to do with their bones.

That is why it is advisable that we always pay attention to their extremities, since they are prone to suffering from patella luxation or Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome and hip dysplasia. Like most “toy” dogs, they tend to get cavities at a very young age, so it would be wise to brush their teeth at least once a week.

Childbirth

Newborn puppies of the Pomeranian breed  are extremely small, that is why you have to take special care with them. The females usually give birth between 1 and 4 cubs. The larger the litter, the smaller the offspring, so they have less life expectancy. Pregnancies are not usually problematic, but veterinarians often propose cesarean section so that there are no risks in delivery.
