Types Of Siamese Cats

Types of Siamese cats

Siamese cats are one of the oldest and most stylized breed of cats in the world. Because they have been with us for a long time and despite its Thai origin, the cat has undergone multiple transformations, giving itself several characteristics within the accepted standards for the breed. Crossbreeding and breeding have considerably affected the appearance and types of cats belonging to this breed, therefore we will give a review of the types of Siamese cats that we find today.

Common features

Despite being a highly varied breed, all types of Siamese cats share things in common that define them as members of the breed. For example, their common characteristics are slender bodies, muscular development, and a triangle-shaped head with slightly “slanted” eyes. The eyes of the Siamese will always be blue and their fur, despite suffering some variations, will be darker on the legs, tail and face.

The colors of the Siamese cat’s coat should be uniform with shaded areas, which will vary in different shades. For example, the most common are cream, but there are also shades of chocolate, bluish-white, gray and even white with pearly gray areas. In general, its coat is short, so you should protect it from the cold.

Now let’s see some types of Siamese cats:

Seal point

It is the cat that has the most representative characteristics of the breed, preserving the patterns in the mantle of its Thai ancestors. The darkest areas correspond to a dark brown, while the rest of the coat is a cream color. They are possibly the most independent type of Siamese, in addition to preserving the finesse and elegance that so distinguish the Siamese. This type of cat is usually the most possessive of its master.

Lilac Points

The Lilac Points Siamese have a coat of a very light cream color, almost white. The legs, face and tail are usually so light gray that some mistake it for pale pink. They also have a slightly more rounded face than usual for this breed, in addition to being less slender.

Blue points

Conjoined twins of this type were long considered a variation of the Seal Point, however, after much scrutiny, they were given the status of breed typology. This type is characterized by having a coat in a lighter cream, almost white, combined with darker areas of a grayish-blue color.

Chocolate Points

Also considered at the beginning a variation, this class of Siamese is much darker than the previous ones, it has an ivory tone on the coat and, for the darker areas, a very strong chocolate color.

Now, there are other types of Siamese, although they are considered a product of mixtures with other breeds of cats, although they retain enough characteristics to be considered part of the breed. These are:

Tabby point

The tabby point Siamese retain the cream and brown hue characteristic of the breed. But nevertheless. The variation is that, as in all tabby, they stand out in some areas where a brindle pattern can be observed.

Tortie point

This type of Siamese has one of the most colorful coat variations, in addition to the breed’s characteristic coat. It has red spots in the darkest areas, which are precisely those that give the category its name because it resembles tortoise scales.

To keep in mind

Not all cats that are cream-colored with brown spots are Siamese, what enrolls a cat within a certain breed is not only their coat characteristics, there are genetic inheritance patterns that pigeonhole them.

Races are subdivisions in which the different members of the same species are located that share a common genetic inheritance and are mostly the product of the manipulation of species that have been domesticated by man through selection techniques. and crossing.
